(Using my headcanon where the Reapers are destroyed and nobody dies and everybody lives happily ever after BECAUSE REASONS. I don’t want these to be sad. Javik’s life is already sad enough as it is.
The Innocuous and Comfort ones are my favorites, just sayin’. Sorry if these suck!)
Short: In his cycle, Javik never considered himself short, but this one was a different story; even the asari was as tall, if not slightly taller than him. He greatly disliked having to look up at these primitives.
Unremarkable: Javik couldn’t understand her fascination with the small spots on the back and sides of his neck. To him, they were quite unremarkable, a trait shared by all Protheans. To her, however, they were the subject of much interest. She had called them ‘endearing’. Javik had attempted to ask what, exactly, she meant by that, but she had simply smiled and went back to work.
So later, when Javik said something about the freckles across her cheeks, she was surprised. They were not unusual in the slightest among asari, but when he told her he found them ‘interesting’, she was surprised nonetheless. Liara found it difficult to tell whether he was simply getting her back for the comment about his spots, or if he was being sincere; when she pried into it, all he did was shrug her off and repeat that they were ‘interesting’. Liara concluded that it was his passive-aggressive way of complimenting her, and she found that she was quite alright with that.
Littered/Comforting: In the weeks after the defeat of the Reapers, Liara lived and worked out of the Normandy, before procuring a safehouse for her Shadow Broker intel…what was left of it, at any rate. Her office was littered with datapads, bits of armor, weapons, and other miscellaneous objects.
Shepard was in Huerta Memorial Hospital on the Citadel, having survived the fight but sustaining heavy injuries. The days immediately following their victory had been difficult for Liara, to say the least. Though she would never admit it, Javik’s near-constant presence made coping with Shepard’s injuries possible.
He kept her distracted during the time when Shepard’s survival was uncertain, and for that, she was grateful. Immediately after the fight, she had tried to work, making feeble attempts to make repairs to her Broker network; she was more than surprised when he forcibly stopped her, coming closer to physical blows than either of them liked.
One of the few clear memories Liara still had of her bleary activities after defeating the Reapers was of that argument. She couldn’t remember exactly what words had been said, but she did remember breaking down in front of him. Before she had known it, she had been crying; crying for her homeworld, crying for Shepard, crying for the friends they had lost along the way. Liara had fallen against him, embracing the only source of comfort it felt like she had left. Though he had initially tensed at the contact, he gingerly embraced her back.
Innocuous: A loud bang and a shriek rung out across Liara’s loft, prompting Javik to leap to his feet and follow the sound up the stairs to where Liara’s bed and fish tank were. What he found there was…not what he expected. She was standing a few feet away from him, staring at one of her display cases in disgust; his eyes followed her line of sight to discover nothing more sinister than a rather large spider sitting atop a case full of Prothean artifacts.
Javik found it rather difficult to keep himself from chuckling, and instantly, Liara rounded on him with narrowed eyes, “Are you laughing at me?” She glanced back to check on the spider, as if it would suddenly leap at her while her back was turned.
Still grinning, he replied, “Not at you, no. I am more amused at the situation as a whole,” Though, he decided to put her out of her misery and deal with the insect for her. Javik held out one green, glowing hand and the spider shriveled up almost instantly.
Liara glared at the spider for a few more seconds before grabbing the nearest datapad stylus and cautiously poking the obviously-dead spider, as if confirming its deceased status.
Javik stood behind her, still grinning, “It was not even a large spider…”
Liara frowned at him, “….shut up, Javik,”
“What is it with you and the word ‘Primitive’?”
On their way back from a rather routine mission, Liara had asked him rather aggressively why he kept calling everybody ‘primitives’. She seemed somewhat affronted by the term, though Javik had no idea why.
“Because you are primitives to me,” he had replied, thinking nothing of it at the time.
She had scowled at him and shot back, “What if everybody called you ‘ancient’ all the time?”
Javik recalled that he had shrugged, “It would be an accurate descriptor and I would not dispute it.”
Liara dropped the topic after that, but he was sure she wasn’t done interrogating him about it. It did make Javik think, though. So far, that asari had been the only one apart from the Commander to challenge him on any subject. Or talk to him at all, for that matter. Perhaps she was not as bad as he had initially assumed.
